Here's a dead pawn, turquoise & sterling silver pill box that was handmade by the remarkably talented Navajo artist Paul J. Begay
Paul is well known for making many different types of jewelry, but we think that his pill boxes are among the most collectible items that he has ever made.
Paul made this pill box to feature it's gorgeous, highly polished, oval shaped, turquoise stone. He also decorated the box, on it's top and sides, with hand stamped designs.
The box measures 1+3/4" across, 1+3/8" wide and is 7/8" tall. It weighed in at 23 grams, is stamped STERLING and has Paul's hallmark (P.J. Begay).
Although we purchased this pill box from a pawn trader it is actually brand new. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, many Native American artists have had to pawn some of their newly made jewelry because jewelry sales in general have dropped significantly. When items are "pawned", and not reclaimed within a specific time limit, the pawn trader has the right to sell those items. We were lucky to buy three of Paul's pill boxes right out of the pawn vault...this is one of them.
