Here's a stunning, dead pawn, repousse style, sterling silver pill box that was handmade by the remarkably talented Navajo artist Paul J. Begay
Paul is well known for making many different types of jewelry but we think that his pill boxes are amongst the nicest, and most affordable, items that he currently is making.
Paul made this pill box with two features. First is the stunning, repousee style, hand stamped design that adorns the top of the box, and second are the traditional Native American designs that he hand stamped around the sides.
The box measures 1+7/8" across, 1+1/4" wide and is 9/16" tall (with the top closed). It weighed in at a substantial 24 grams. The back is stamped STERLING and has Paul's hallmark (P.J. Begay).
Although we purchased this pill box from a pawn trader it is actually brand new. Unfortunately, due to the current economic situation, Paul (as well as many other Native American artists) has had to pawn some of his new jewelry because jewelry sales in general have dropped significantly. When items are "pawned", and not reclaimed within a specific time limit, the pawn trader has the right to sell those items.
This wonderful example of genuine, handmade, Native American art will make a terrific addition to your jewelry collection (or your purse, or pocket, if you carry your medications with you) or would make a wonderful gift for that special someone in your life.
