We were lucky to be able to watch Zuni artist Sandra Quandelacy complete this magnificent fetish for us. She told us that the apple coral "stone" that she started with had told her what was inside and all she had to do was uncover it. Staying with it's original shape, and using the talents that earned her the "Master Carver" designation, she created her version of a "corn maiden" mother carrying two children on her back.

There are no words we can use to properly describe this beautiful piece so we'll let the pictures displayed below do the describing for us. The details we can offer is that this fetish stands 2+1/2" tall and that it weighs 25 grams.

The Zuni village, where Sandra and several of her family members live, is known as a "village of artists". After spending a few days there and seeing the results of their labors we fully understand why.
