Here's a fantastic old necklace that we purchased from a well known pawn trader in southern Utah, adjacent to the Navajo Reservation.
By State Law pawn traders are limited as to how much information they can legally provide but we were told that the necklace was crafted by a local Navajo artist, probably during the 1960's or 1970's.
The necklace contains 32 unusually colored turquoise stones (pea green with gold colored matrix) that are separated from each other with small goups of handmade heishi beads. At each end of the necklace the artist placed about 3+1/2" of additional heishi beads.
The entire length of the necklace, including the heishi beads and the additional 12" of string (which is used to tie the necklace at the back) is 40 inches. The 12 inches of string can be tied and adjusted as you wish. It weighed in at 54 grams on ouir postage scale.
