Here's a four strand, traditional Pueblo style, turquoise & heishi bead necklace that was handmade by the wonderfully talented Santo Domingo Pueblo artist Maggie Garcia.
Maggie made the necklace with 100 turquoise beads that are separated from each other with groups of heishi beads. At both ends of each strand she added about 2+1/2" of additional heishi beads.
Since every one of the beads (turquoise & heishi) was drilled by hand, it's hard to imagine how many hours of very tedious work it took to complete this beautiful example of genuine, handmade, Native American jewelry.
The necklace measures 28" long (as seen in the pictures), however by tying the string at the back differently it can be shortened to 24" if you wish to. It weighs 110 grams (or 3.8 ounces).
On necklaces such as this there is no place where an artist can place their hallmark. However, since we watched Maggie complete it for us, at her home on the pueblo, there is no doubt that she is the artist that made this necklace.

The coin in some of the pictures is a quarter.
