This is a gorgeous, dark wood trinket box by the well known Navajo sand painter, Lester Johnson, that has a sand painting, framed in glass, as it's cover.
The beautifully carved box measures 9 inches long, 6 inches wide and 3 and 3/4 inches deep. It weighed in at 2 and 3/4 pounds.
The back of the cover is signed by Lester and contains a copy of his business card which states some of his life's philosophies.
It appears as if Lester named the sand painting, above his signature, but we haven't been able to determine just what it says.
Although we've previously seen several of Lester's beautiful sand paintings this is the only one we've ever seen that was part of a trinket box. We don't know for sure but this may very possibly be a one-of-a-kind piece.
Most sand paintings are displayed in people's homes, or offices, as pieces of decorative Native American art. However, in this case, the box can either be used as a piece of art or it can be used to store whatever you want to put in it.
This terrific example of genuine, handmade, Native American Indian creativity will certainly make a great addition to your art collection.
Due it's size, it's weight and the fragility of the glass, this item will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail. The cost of the shipping will be $14.50.
