During most of the year, Maggie's "regular" job is working as a school administrator for the Santo Domingo school district...but now that the school year has ended she has gone back to her true love, which is making wonderful, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.
If you appreciate beautiful and unique Native American jewelry this is one necklace that you really should take a good look at. We can guarantee that you'll never see another one just like it!
This is a beautiful, long, Chinese turquoise & Wild Horse necklace that Maggie just completed for us.
The story of this necklace began when we purchased a large group of multi-colored turquoise stones from our favorite seller of Chinese turquoise stones that are being mined in the Hubei Provence in China. The Hubei Provence currently provides about 80% of the turquoise being used to make jewelry by Native American artists and other artists around the world. As with all turquoise there are various grades of quality and the reason we buy from this particular trader is that he only sells the highest grades that are available.
We gave the beads to Maggie and asked her to perform her "magic' with them. The pictures displayed below will show you the results of her amazing creativity.
Maggie positioned the turquoise stones so that both sides of the necklace look very similar to each other. This was not an easy task as each of the stones is different from the others and it took an artist's eye to determine where each stone would be placed to obtain the best results. She then added smaller Wild Horse and green turquoise beads between the huge turquoise stones. As a final touch she added various shaped silver beads at both ends of the necklace.
Besides providing most of the turquoise available today the Hubei mines also provide some of the most beautiful stones that we've ever seen. The variety of colors is astounding and the higher grade stones (such as those in this necklace) are equal in quality to most of the higher quality turquoise that is being mined in the USA. We are certainly aware that many people are reluctant to purchase Chinese turquoise because they think it is inferior in quality, but the reality is that almost all of the turquoise being mined in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico is not high quality and that it is being shipped to China to be treated to make it more durable.
So, now, we can offer you this wonderful example of traditional old style Santo Domingo jewelry, but with Maggie's contemporary touch that makes this necklace so unique.
This handmade, genuine, Native American necklace measures 28" long and it weighed in at 256 grams (9 ounces).
With warmer weather just around the corner, many of our customers have already started shopping for "summer style" jewelry... and colorful necklaces such as this one are already in heavy demand. The colors in this necklace will go perfectly with most lighter colored summer clothing.
Since Maggie custom made this one-of-a-kind necklace for us, you can be sure that you won't see anybody else wearing one just like it. Maggie, like most very creative artists, never exactly duplicates any of her work.
NOTE: The coin that appears in some of the pictures is a quarter dollar.
